Rossano Bhandal 11J Compare the views of relationships in ââ¬ËThe Unequal Fettersââ¬â¢ with those in ââ¬ËTo his Coy Mistressââ¬â¢. What is suggested about the different ways in which men and women view love? ââ¬ËTo His Coy Mistressââ¬â¢ was written by Andrew Marvell (1621-1678). The poem is a metaphysical poem, which was mostly used in the seventeenth century and was classed as a highly intellectual type of poetry and mainly expressed the complexities of love and life; just as this poem is. In brief the poem is about seizing every opportunity in life and not caring about the past or future. In other words ââ¬Ëseize the dayââ¬â¢. The poem also explores the nature of seduction. ââ¬ËThe Unequal Fetters ââ¬â¢written by Anne Finch (1661-1720) is about how women are lockedâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Biblical references are used as he refers to Noahââ¬â¢s arc and ââ¬Ëconversion of the Jewsââ¬â¢ which is the end of the world. The first word in the second section is ââ¬Ëbutââ¬â¢ which is a Volta and that means thereââ¬â¢s a change in what the man is talking about. The tone gets darker and bleaker because he starts to use imagery of death which is a consequence of not acting on his impulses and his desires. Personification is used when the man says he always hears timeââ¬â¢s winged chariot hurrying near which a personification of life is closing in on time. Hurrying is also is a verb. The man says ââ¬ËDesertsââ¬â¢ which is insinuating that his sex life is
